A colorful, practical 10-section guide and presentation to help beginners install, configure, and use Phantom securely and productively.
Phantom is a modern, user-friendly wallet and toolset for interacting with Solana-based applications. It provides account management, secure key storage, network switching, and a browser extension for quick dApp connections. This guide gives you practical steps to get started and stay safe.
Phantom is available as a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave) and as a mobile app for iOS and Android. For most desktop users, the extension is the fastest way to start.
Always verify the publisher and number of users to avoid fake extensions.
After installing Phantom, click the extension icon and choose “Create new wallet”. You'll be shown a secret recovery phrase (seed phrase). This is the single most important piece of information for your wallet.
Anyone with the seed phrase can control your funds. Phantom cannot recover it for you.
Purchase SOL on a regulated exchange (Coinbase, Binance, Kraken), then withdraw to your Phantom wallet address.
Share your Phantom public address (not the seed phrase) with the sender. Always verify the network is Solana.
Solana transaction fees are low, but always leave a small buffer of SOL for transaction fees and dApp interactions.
To send tokens, click Send, paste the recipient address, choose token and amount, then confirm. Double-check the address — Solana addresses are long and mistypes can be irreversible.
Click "Receive" to display your public address and QR code. For tokens beyond SOL (SPL tokens), you may need to add the token to see balances.
When you visit a Solana dApp, look for a "Connect Wallet" button. Choose Phantom from the wallet options and review the permission prompt before approving. Permissions typically allow transaction signing but never expose your seed phrase.
Phantom auto-detects common SPL tokens. To add a new token manually, use the token mint address. Be sure the mint address is correct—incorrect entries can show fake balances.
Use Phantom's built-in swap or popular Solana DEXs to exchange tokens. Compare prices and slippage settings before confirming.
Never sign transactions from unknown sites promising free tokens or airdrops.
Store the phrase offline in a safe location. Consider splitting it across secure backups or using a hardware wallet to sign transactions instead of exposing your keys to an extension alone.
Enable platform security on your device (strong OS password, 2FA where relevant) and keep software up to date.
Check your browser's extension toolbar and permissions. Re-enable the extension or reinstall from the official store if necessary.
Check transaction history on a Solana explorer using your public address. Confirm the recipient address and transaction status. Contact exchanges if withdrawals didn't complete.
Use Phantom's official help center or community channels—never share your seed phrase with support.
Phantom supports hardware wallets for added security. Pair your Ledger or other supported device to sign critical transactions.
If you're building on Solana, Phantom supports dev wallets and network switching so you can test on devnet and testnet before mainnet.
